The Pyrenees Atlantiques department (64) is divided into two former provinces Béarn and Basque country. The administrative capital is Pau, the "English city" and the "city of one thousand palm trees".

Béarn with its rolling hills, snowcapped mountains, patchwork of villages and vineyards attracts tourists and prospective homebuyers in search of the French douceur de vivre.
The variety of architectural styles provides homes from spacious two storey dwellings with outbuildings to quaint village homes in the traditional pebbles or stone.

The Basque Country enjoys the best of two worlds with the Atlantic Coast seaside resort towns and the Pyrenees mountains. It is famous for its gastronomy Bayonne ham and hot peppers, its independent character and sports like bullfighting.
The typical Basque houses that are white with green half timber in the or the late 1800’s mansions on the coast along with the Biarritz/Bayonne airport and its low cost connection to London and Dublin make the region a great place to have a holiday home or to commute from.

The Hautes Pyrenees is more well-known for its former province Bigorre which covers 70% of the department, the Madiran Madiran vineyards in the northwest and the Pyrenees with the Pic du Midi Pic du Midi in the south.
The mountainous pastureland, the small farms and villages have an additional advantage being a half an hour away from Pau and its low cost connection to London. It is good breeding ground for the Gascon pig and Barèges sheep as well as the the Tarbes bean, the highlights of the region’s gastronomy.
The capital of the department is Tarbes. It is a river and plains town and is the gateway to the Pyrenees ski resorts some only 30 minutes away. Internationally, the town is over shadowed by the nearby and world famous modern pilgrimage town of Lourdes.

The Gers department (32) is in the heart of the former province of Gascony and is one of the most agricultural and rural departments of France and is also one of the least populated. Like other departments, it was formed in 1790 of various “countries;” and since the Third Republic we speak of the four “countries”: Armagnac, Lomagne, l’Astrac and Ténarèze. The administrative capital is Auch.
The Gers is well known for its legendary d’Artagnan, a genuine member of the king’s Musketeers and character of Alexandre Dumas “The Three Musketeers".
As famous or more so, is the gastronomy with its foie gras, reputation for free range and grain-fed poultry and Armagnac spirit and Madiran wines.
Home buyers are especially keen to settle in the region attracted by the bastides, mediaeval new towns, which represent the architectural wealth of the Gers.
